Crossbowmen are general ranged units that are stronger than archers. While they possess less range than archers, and are incapable of lighting pitch ditches, they deal far more damage. This makes them more effective against armored units. They can also take more damage in part due to having better armor. Like archers, crossbowmen are best placed on top of towers and walls to increase their range.
Crossbowmen require a free peasant from the campfire, 1 crossbow, 1 leather armor from the armory and 2 honor with a sum of 20 gold to recruit.
