Crossbowmen are a fairly durable unit, who bring one of the largest ranged damage into the fray. They have the same range as the archer, however they fire much slower, as the crossbow needs to be wound up between shots. The leather outfit can mitigate incoming damage from other projectiles. Unlike archers, crossbowmen can not ignite pitch ditches with a brazier.

Crossbowmen require a free peasant from the campfire, 1 crossbow, and 1 leather armor from the armory with a sum of 20 gold to recruit.
