Crossbowmen are a fairly durable unit, who bring one of the largest ranged damage into the fray. They have a much shorter range then archers and they fire much slower, as the crossbow needs to be wound up between shots. The metal armor can mitigate incoming damage from other projectiles. Unlike archers, crossbowmen can not ignite pitch ditches with a brazier.

Crossbowmen require a free peasant from the campfire, 1 crossbow and 1 metal armor from the armory with a sum of 12 gold to recruit.
