The Engineer's Guild is a military building.

Description[]

The Engineer's guild is required to recruit combat engineers. Engineers are talented unarmed units that are invaluable at operating siege equipment and castle defenses, making the lives of infantry and other soldiers easier. Their versatile contraptions cost a lot of gold, but their worth pays dividends, if used in the proper situation.

Information[]

The Engineer's Guild allows the recruitment of engineers and laddermen for gold. Engineers can man and unman siege engines, as well as construct new ones on ground level in the form of a siege tent. An engineer can also carry pots of boiling oil around and pour them at a location in front of them.

Freshly recruited troops gather at the designated training grounds, unless an assembly point is set. A rally point can be placed to a custom location per troop after pressing the corresponding number key (1-2), which can be reset to the guild itself.

Siege engines on the field can be constructed on a free location for gold, which may require multiple engineers to operate. Upon construction, engineers will try to man them if enough manpower is supplied. When unmanning a tower engine, engineers automatically go back to their assembly points. If a manned siege engine is destroyed, its operators are also lost.

Engineers can also visit an oil smelter for fresh pots, if one is assigned with loading the cauldron with pitch. When they unload their pots, they run back to the smelter to refill it.

The Engineer's Guild allows the recruitment of engineers and laddermen for gold, as well as the construction of catapults and fire ballistae. Freshly recruited troops gather at the guild's entrance, unless an assembly point is set. A rally point can be placed to a custom location per troop from the building panel, which can be reset to the guild itself. Siege engines instantly appear at the guild's location.

Standalone engineers work differently to previous games. While they are free to move around, their sole responsibility is to repair damaged walls, which they automatically do by retrieving stone from the stockpile and moving to the breach.

When an oil smelter is built, the game automatically recruits engineers to man it and assigns them to oil duty, up to three. Engineers with oil can be freely commanded around and they return to the smelter for fresh supply after pouring it.

Siege engines in Stronghold 2 come with their operator engineers upon creation from the engineer's guild or a siege camp, with no additional cost.

Laddermen can return to the engineer's guild for a replacement ladder after they set up their original one.

Engineers in Stronghold Legends can repair walls and use the oil smelter. Standalone engineers will automatically take stone blocks from the stockpile and use them to fully restore a damaged wall segment when they find one.

While most siege engines from the siege camp are seen operated by engineers, they automatically come with the engine and do not cost extra funds.

Trivia[]

  • In Stronghold and Crusader when engineers are not active, they will pull out logs and sit on them. They read what is presumed to be blueprints.
  • Engineers speak with a Scottish accent.
