Engineer's Guild/Background|Background|false
Guilds were a form of organization in the feudal ages, which brought people with the same mastery under one banner. Typically guilds were economic and they were responsible for controlling trade and crafts. Merchant guilds had extensive networks, while crafting guilds produced quality wares for high sums, such as potteries, shoemakers, smithies, etc. The engineer's guild resembles such an array of engineers, who can make and operate wooden mechanical equipment for the army, in return for huge amounts of gold.

Guilds were individual companies and they carried their own symbols to display their field in front of their workshops. Guilds also had a strict role system, with the guildmaster being on the top and the apprentice on the bottom. Masters were often owners of the guild and thus controlled business, while they also supervised the workers and their jobs.

Apprentices had dire circumstances and had to work hard to earn their keeps. They often were taught only the basic skills, as the guildmaster heavily guarded their ways' secrets from slipping away.

Guilds were the most prevalent form of employment besides the military in the Middle Ages, however their cost-efficiency was inferior as production was very slow. They were succeeded by manufactories: factories which employ more workers to mass-produce wares, sacrificing a lot of quality in exchange for greater and faster production.

As of the Modern Age, guilds remain well in existance to preserve and practice masteries at ceremonial assemblies (and a few other purposes, as well).

Engineers can be assigned to construct and operate siege and tower engines, or to use the oil smelter to carry oil pots.

Siege engines can be constructed on the field for gold in the form of a tent and engineers will try to man them if enough manpower is supplied. When unmanning a tower engine, engineers automatically go back to their assembly points.

A smelter will supply an engineer with oil if one is already carrying and loading the cauldron with pitch. When they unload their pots, they run back to the smelter to refill it.

The Guild is used and allows to recruit engineers and laddermen. New units automatically wander to their assembly point upon conscription.

Engineers recruited here can repair damaged wall segments or use the oil smelter to carry oil pots. They also man siege equipment, but they spawn instantly when an engine is built. Most siege engines can be constructed at a siege camp for gold, but catapults and fire ballistae are also available at the guild. Siege equipment can only be disbanded: the engineers coming with them cannot be decommissioned. They will immediately go to the stockpile and take a stone block when there are any harm to walls.

Engineers are automatically recruited when using an oil smelter, up to four at a time (one supplying the smelter with pitch and three other to defend). The game deducts gold with each engineer assigned to the smelter.

Laddermen can be hired from both the siege camp and the engineer's guild. They can retrieve another ladder from these buildings when placed their former one.
