Gatehouses are defensive structures that provide a controlled passage through a fortification's walls, as well as serving as mini-towers with range boost simmilar to that of walls, as well as allowing the placement of braziers but not allowing mounted siege engines to be placed on top of them. They can serve as stairs, providing a way for troops to get on the walls and towers of the castle. They can also be enhanced with drawbridges to provide means of crossing a castle's moat defenses.

Types of Gatehouses

Largegatehouse

large gate house in Stronghold

Wooden gate - Those are only present in the original Stronghold game, as the Crusader expansion removed all wooden defenses from the game. They do not support drawbridges and come with two wooden platforms that might be missing, depending on the gate's placement.

Inner Gate - Those are the smaller stone gate, requiring less space and less stone to be placed. Those exist by the name of "Small stone gatehouse" in Crusader.

Main Gate - The larger version of the Inner gate, it can take more punishment and has more space for troops on top of it, but costs double the stone(20) and requires a little more space for placement. Takes the name of "Large stone gatehouse" in Crusader.
