Description[]
The horse archer is a light, permanently mounted Arabian unit that rides a horse into battle. He uses his bow to fire at enemies from a large distance, and he can even shoot while on the move.
The horse archer is recruited at the mercenary post.
Information[]
Horse archers are an expensive but versatile unit, which moves with very fast speed. Given that they can fire even while moving, the horse archer is one of the best raiders and even a second-to-none damage dealer on the field with a lethal rate of fire.
In melee combat, the horse archer switches to a saber that deals negligible damage to all but the lightest units. A group of selected horse archers can also be ordered to attack an area, shooting inaccurate arrows over buildings and other obstacles. Targetting a building with the 'attack here' option makes the selected units move up to the building and attempt to attack in melee.
The horse archer has an obvious advantage over other ranged infantry that he can move on the edge of their effective range and get in potshots. Horse archers also combine well with other fast units, such as knights, macemen, and portable shields.

- If their stance is set to aggressive, they will charge enemies that are too close with melee attacks.
- Most Arabian AI lords use horse archers, as well as the Wolf, a European lord.
- In Crusader, horse archers have slow reaction time when stationary, and they do not react at all if they are freshly recruited and not moved away from their rally points.
- Horse Archers have the highest rate of fire out of all bow wielding archers, shooting faster than Arabian bowmen.

Horse archers are an expensive but versatile unit, which moves with very fast speed. It has low reaction time and can also fire arrows while on the move. Its fire rate is greatly increased however, when stationary. The horse archer cannot dismount, unlike the knight.
In melee combat, the horse archer defends itself with a basic weapon that deals very low damage. It cannot attack buildings.
Horse archers require a free peasant from the campfire with a sum of 80 gold and 2 honor to recruit.
Trivia[]
- The horse archer's fighting animation bugs out when engaging in melee combat: it turns to its target, but does not play any fighting sequence.
- When the unit is killed by area damage, it keeps shooting arrows instead of dying, before it is removed from the game after a few seconds.

The horse archer is a considerably cheap and mobile unit. While it has an unmatched capability of firing while on the move, it is very fragile and easily bested. Its fire rate is comparable to that of other ranged units, and the nature of firing projectiles makes it trade unfavourably with them. Horse archers cannot attack in melee.
Their mobility makes horse archers invaluable for harassment on the edge of enemy territory, as well as in numbers they are still capable of threatening ranged platoons. Armored units, as well as units on walls and towers can however withstand considerable punishment against them.
