The imperial crossbowman is a ranged unit in the upcoming Stronghold Warlords game.
Description[]
The Chinese crossbowman is an armored unit that uses a siege crossbow to fire deadly bolts. While unable to defend himself in close combat, his projectiles can easily penetrate metal armour.
The imperial crossbowman is trained at the barracks.
Traits[]
Imperial crossbowmen are expensive units, requiring a crossbow and armour from the armoury with a moderate amount of gold.
They are the penultimate ranged unit, possessing great survivability and lethal firepower. They are slow to move, but their ability to outrange most units and respond with lethal firepower makes them a top-tier unit. Crossbow bolts can potentially down light units in one or two shots, and take away a slight chunk of health off heavy armor.
Imperial crossbowmen are a great asset in any army, be it in the defense or the offense. Their firepower can deter the enemy from conducting raids and whittle down the health of massive formations. Although they have slightly smaller range than auxiliary archers or siege engines, they can make up for it when put in towers or on walls. They can also combat small groups of ranged units, withstanding incoming fire.
Crossbowmen are among the sturdiest units, as their armour can absorb a number of projectiles. It also protects them from melee strikes, however they are easily bested in hand-to-hand combat by most melee units, as their pocket daggers deal negligible damage.
