Description

The elite lancer is a fast melee unit that can quickly rush down enemy units and attack them with a lance. She also provides support for other cavalry troops near her, improving their damage output.

The samurai lancer is recruited at the military academy.

Game unit

For a large gold price, the samurai lancer is an expensive unit to afford. It is well worth to spend though, if the player intends to extensively use cavalry, as the lancer can support up to a few dozen cavalry in her vicinity. She also does not require equipment or horses for her recruitment.

Given her utility, the samurai lancer is best used in the center or a back of a cavalry formation, charging down an enemy group while still maintaining a relatively safe position.

Having the samurai lancer fare alone against other fighters is not a recommended situation to get into. While still a capable fighter on her own, she quickly loses to a small group of lesser troops and ranged units.

Tactics

• The samurai lancer can work best with imperial cavalry, making use of their charge while also boosting their overall damage. Horse archers also make excellent troops to support, because their speed matches the lancer's.
• Multiple samurai lancers can be dispatched in order to provide their buff for larger groups.

Trivia

• The general provides the same damage buff as the samurai lancer, therefore a cavalry unit standing in both units' auras will not have multiple increases to their damage.
• Imperial bannerman have their own buff instance however, enabling cavalry units to be buffed twice.
