The Shah is going to be a new Arabian lord in Stronghold Crusader 2.

Background

Shah was a rank of ancient Persian lords. They were religious leaders, who conquered most of Western Asia and expanded to as far as ancient Greece. They had one of the most modern armies of that age, relying mostly on their numbers. Persian armies were based on massive formations of bowmen equipped with shortbows and swordsmen, who were called 'immortals': being constantly reinforced when losses occured. Notable Shahs are Darius the Great, his son Xerxes and Darius III.

This Shah is probably based on a ruler of the much smaller medieval Persian kingdom under the Khwarazmian Dynasty that existed at the time of the Crusades. Quite what he is doing so far west outside the borders of his kingdom fighting in the Near East is unknown.

Character

According to his trailer, the Shah will be an example of an easy enemy, who uses simple tactics and builds simple castles. He is going to be an economist, rather than a warmonger, who will not be a challenge for humans nor most computer opponents alike. It seems likely he will replace and be similar to, albeit with a better economy than, The Sultan from the first Stronghold Crusader.  Like the Sultan, the Shah would much rather be writing poetry than devising battle tactics.
